Let’s Celebrate Vitamin C Day

I am sure that majority of us will assume that the best way to celebrate Vitamin C day is to get enough Vitamin C through our diet. However, we also need to think about our skin needs and to look for a good source of Vitamin C in our daily skincare regime.

Whilst we know that Vitamin C is the most widely taken dietary supplement, it’s really in the last few years that Vitamin C merged as a holy grail ingredient used in cosmetic industry to maintain healthy skin.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin found naturally in fruit and vegetables. The most commonly used form of Vitamin C is skincare is ascorbic acid.

What Vitamin C do for our skin?

Vitamin C acts as a powerful antioxidant with a potent capacity to neutralise free radicals, which are unstable molecules that trigger oxidative stress that can lead to the damage of skin cells and premature skin ageing.

Additionally, Vitamin C helps promote the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure to the skin and keeps it firm and supple.

Vitamin C, also, inhibits the activity of intracellular tyrosinase and melanogenesis and thus brightens the skin and evens skin tone revealing visibly radiant and younger-looking skin complexion.

A postcard from Zelens Garden in Sicily

The richest source of Vitamin C are agrumes. In our Zelens Garden in Sicily we cultivate the best quality agrumes: oranges, lemons, grapefruit and lime. They all contain high amounts of Vitamin C. One good orange can provide 70 % to 100 % of the daily recommended intake of vitamin C.

In order to celebrate Vitamin C day we share with you some wonderful images directly from the Zelens Garden celebrating our citrus fields here in Sicily.
Dr Marko Lens quotes “I am particularly proud of our oranges called Ribera oranges of Sicily which are juicy, seedless and enjoy a light pulp with a delicious flavour. And of course, very rich in Vitamin C.”

However, we cannot celebrate Vitamin C day without mentioning other botanicals from the Zelens Garden that are also an excellent source of natural Vitamin C used in our Power C – namely Kakadu plum, Acerola, Rosehip (Rosa canina), Guava, Blackcurrant and Kale. In order to get the maximum efficacy and performance of these botanicals, we bio ferment them using yeast.

Zelens continues to integrate advanced research and innovative technology to find the best solutions to meet the needs of our consumers whilst always striving to be sustainable and eco-responsible.
